West Muskingum Soccer Team Helps out Lace Up for Kids

ZANESVILLE, OH – An annual event got off on the right foot thanks to some of the members from the West Muskingum Boys Soccer Team.

The guys sacrificed one of the few days they have left of summer break to help Eastside Community Ministry bring in shoes and clothes for Saturday’s Lace Up for Kids event at Zanesville Middle School.

Sally Goins, a Volunteer with Eastside Community Ministry, says it means a lot to her as well as Eastside that these young men took time out of their busy schedules to come help other kids get ready for their first day back to school.

“It means that they’re good guys who want to help out when they can and it also means their coach has got them doing the right thing.” Goins said.

Over 1,000 children from all over here in Muskingum County are registered for Saturday’s event.

They will be fitted for a new pair of shoes, receive an outfit, and leave feeling confident for their first day in the classroom after summer break.

Brooks McCune, one of the Captains of the West M Soccer Team, says he’s been volunteering with the team to help with Lace Up since his freshmen year and it’s something he looks forward to each summer.

“I just think it’s a good thing. One, it’s good for the community and also it’s team bonding with the boys. We’re going into a big season and it just helps bring us all together.” McCune said. “I know that school can be nerve wracking sometimes, because of thoughts and that stuff, so us coming in and helping them out, getting their stuff together so they can come in and have an easy experience here, really means a lot to us. We like having kids be confident during school and also help them out.”

We wish the West Muskingum Boys Soccer Team the best in their upcoming season and thank them for their hard work in getting the little things together for Eastside.

The 38th Annual Lace Up for Kids and Head to Toe, Ready to Go event will be taking place at Zanesville Middle School beginning at 8AM this Saturday.
