Women’s Rights Rally Held at Muskingum County Courthouse

Roe Rally

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio – A Women’s Rally was held outside Muskingum County Courthouse Wednesday night in protest of the overturning of Roe v Wade.

People gathered at the base of the courthouse steps to protest The Supreme Court decision this past month.

On June 24th, The Supreme Court overturned the landmark decision of Roe v Wade – giving the power to legalize abortion to the state versus the federal level. Since the wake of this overturning, people have been vocal about their opinions on the decision – with protests and rallies occurring in many major cities. Wednesday, Zanesville was home to its rally – garnering support from a large group upset about women’s healthcare rights.

Kristine Fowler-Geis, a mother and advocate for Women’s rights, was in attendance at the rally and spoke about why she believes this decision is harmful to women’s right to bodily autonomy.

“Women know what’s best for their bodies, they know what’s best for their families – they know how to care for what needs to happen for them and their families. And the people that don’t know that are legislators.”

The event drew over 50 protesters with homemade signs, chanting their anger toward the local legislators.

17-year-old Carolyn Geis has been attending protests and rallies with her mother, Kristine, since a very young age. Carolyn spoke about the importance of speaking out and the impact the rally today could have on the Ohio community.

“If the people don’t express what they want to be put into law, then the legislators aren’t going to do anything. So we are the ones that have to be like, ‘Hey! Can we get this freedom, please?’”
