Zane State College and Capital University opens a pathway for a bachelor’s degree

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The pathway for Zane State College students to gain a bachelor’s degree just got a little simpler after today’s signing ceremony.
Presidents from Zane State, Washington State College, and Capital University met at the Advanced Science & Technology Center on Zane State’s campus to sign an articulation agreement. This agreement gives Zane State and Washington State graduates with an associate’s degree a clear path to build towards a bachelor’s degree with Capital University.
“Well, I think the benefits are for the students that will be best served at Capital University who are seeking out a four-year degree. And degrees like business, social work, health sciences, I think that’s the most important part. Right? So, if we can create clear pathways from Washington College and Zane State to get to Capital, reduce barriers, create affordable pathways for them to get a four-year degree, it benefits our local economy, our region and the state of Ohio,” said Jared Tice, the president of Capital University.
Joseph Keating, the interim president for Zane State, explains how this articulation agreement came about and shares his excitement for what it means.
“The articulation agreement comes about when you see regional demands and you find kind of the same synergy between institutions. Right? So, the connection with Capital and having that type of relationship and those programs available, and our programs that are at the associate degree level, those just seem to connect well together,” Keating said. “So, we reached out. We had the conversation. Capital was also very eager to do this with us and it just seemed like it was an awesome way for us to connect and build towards the future.”
Zane State currently only offers a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering Technology but Keating is excited for the door this opens for business, social work, and physical therapy.
