Zane State College’s 30th Annual Ethnic Food Fair is this Friday

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zane State College is celebrating three decades of tradition with the 30th annual Ethnic Food Fair.

Friday’s event serves as a fundraiser for the Joyce A. Farmer Smith Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship’s namesake was dedicated to the advancement of minority students and to raising awareness of minority issues. The Ethnic Food Fair also serves as a learning opportunity for students in the culinary program.

“Students start working in August, starts setting this menu up. We do Mexican, soul, Chinese, and Italian this year. We’ll have, like, sweet and sour pork, chicken mole, pasta with Italian sauce, and ribs. So, you know, the doors open at at 11 o’clock, we start serving food at 11:30 [a.m.] till 1 [p.m.] and then just come on out and enjoy yourself and just taste some really nice diverse foods,” said Marco Adornetto, the program director for the culinary arts program at Zane State College.

Ardornatto has been leading the Ethnic Food Fair for 29 out of 30 years an enoys being a part of the long-standing tradition originally started by Joyce Smith.

“It’s just really nice. It’s just something I look forward to every year and the community does and the students really do and that’s what it’s all about for me. The students getting involved. I’ve done a lot of this for a long time but this is new for them,” Adornetto said.
