Zanesville Citizens Celebrate National Day of Prayer

Thursday was the annual National Day of Prayer across the county and dozens of citizens met at Zanesville High School to celebrate. The day is set-aside for believers to pray for the nation and to seek guidance. For Pastor Joseph DiVincenzo he hopes that days like today will help spread the message.

“The greatest weapon to us is prayer,” said Pastor DiVincenzo. “So we’re hoping that through God we will start to move on his behalf, and turn our nation back to the very foundation that it was founded on, founded and formed on the word of God.”

The National Day of Pray has been issued periodical throughout American history by presidents during trying times. President Regan reinstated it in 1988 so that it would be held every single year on the first Thursday in May. This year’s theme was “WAKE UP AMERICA,” and for pastors like Sturman Moore of the Christ United Methodist Church in Cambridge, he said it’s a message that Americans need to hear.

“I think all of us would agree that as we watch what’s going on in our culture we have drug abuse we have all kinds of things going on, not only in the criminal realm, but moral and ethical,” said Pastor Moore. “We hope we can wake up and get back before he turns his back on us.”
