Zanesville City Schools Levy up for Renewal

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–A renewal levy for Zanesville City Schools is hitting the ballot again this year.
Stacey Russell, a levy renewal committee member, said they’re not asking for more money and the levy will help support programs the school needs.
“It will generate about $1.4 million, it’s a renewal so no new money. It supports all kinds of things like Project Lead the Way, arts, sports, things like that. The extras.”
Another committee member, Matt Russell, said the levy helps support the schools which in turn helps support the community.
“It’s very important to continue to support those schools because they do provide stronger communities.”
Superintendent of the district, Dr. Doug Baker, said the levy, which was originally passed in 1989, helps bridge the gap between a diploma and a career.
“We’ve made a concious effort to try to combine our academics with careers and careers at whatever level… We have engineering classes leading into engineering jobs. We have the biomedical classes that lead into the medical science professions, the computer science — obviously, those are the big three that are in need jobs. And so we’re combining those academics with a way to go beyond those academic classes. “
The renewal levy will appear on the November 5th ballot.
