ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville Fire Department were dispatched around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18th for a structure fire at 924 Maple Avenue.

When firefighters arrived on scene there were flames and smoke coming from the side of the duplex. Assistant Chief John Rodman said there were two residents stuck on the second-floor deck with their cats and dog.

“We threw a ladder up and got those two out and extinguished the fire. We did get two cats out but we’re still looking for one,” Assistant Chief Rodman said. “We just got a dog off the deck too. So a dog and two cats were rescued.”

The two residents were transported to Genesis hospital for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire and damage estimates remain under investigation.
