Zanesville High School Honors Area Veterans

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Veterans Day is right around the corner and
students at Zanesville High School honored those who serve our
country this afternoon with a special program.
The school and
Junior ROTC hosted the event for area veterans; which featured the
Zanesville High school band, choir, and alumni speaker Major Angela
Bailey. First Sergeant Cory Fahnestock, Army Instructor of the JROTC,
says that the program connected students and veterans.
“It allows us to
reach out and let them know like we as the high school and Junior
ROTC are here to support them and support the community; and they
even support us—you know. We’re leading the parade this year so
we’re with the veterans this year with the Junior ROTC. On
Saturday, we’re going to lead the parade with them.”
Junior ROTC cadets
were heavily involved in planning the program; with the goal of
showing appreciation to area veterans. Cadet Caes Anderson, Battalion
Commander, says he joined the program to explore the opportunities
offered by the military.
“I come from a
military family. My dad was in the Navy; my granddad was in the
Navy. So, it kind of urged me to give it a shot. I figured this is a
beforehand of like signing a contract; so I could get a taste of it
before I went and signed away for like six years. I took it as an
early opportunity to get an experience with the Army.”
Students from
Zanesville Middle School also attended the Veterans Day Program this
afternoon.
