Zanesville Mayor gives first month in office update

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The first month in office for Zanesville Mayor Don Mason’s return has also come to a close.
WHIZ sat down with the mayor to see what he’s accomplished during his first month back at City Hall. Mason says he’s working to gain properties across Zanesville.
“I’m still dead set on getting the Lear property on Linden Avenue, as well as the properties on Pershing and Dryden because I think the people of Zanesville want the city to take into account what they want to see done.”
Mason says he’s spent a large amount of time addressing the homeless situation and lack of housing in the community. He says this may be causing a domino effect with the opioid crisis.
“Over the past couple of months, looked into this — and what I see with a recovery house or a halfway house — or whatever terminology a person wants to use — what I see is if it’s a well-managed program, that you can help people find productivity in their own lives — find pride in their own lives and again create success — and so now what you have is a tax payer rather than a tax user.”
Mason says that project, the Pearl House, will be located in the downtown area.
