Zanesville Memorial Concert Band Hosts Annual Patriotic Concert

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Sunday evening, music filled the air as the Zanesville Memorial Band hosted their annual patriotic concert, “An American Celebration,” at Secrest Auditorium.
The Zanesville Community Concert Band is approaching its 100th season and is composed of local community members passionate about the performance arts. With levels ranging from novice to professional – and ages ranging from 18 to 92, the Concert Band is excited to perform throughout the summer for the Zanesville area through their Summer Concert Series.
David Turrill, the Artistic Director of the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band, spoke with WHIZ about the patriotic flair added to the repertoire for the holiday concert.
“A lot of upbeat, Americana-type music. A piece by Aaron Copland – he is one of our great American Composers.”
The Concert Band will also pay tribute to all branches of the United States military in their concert, asking veterans and active members to stand and be recognized for their service.
Turrill says that the holiday weekend is the perfect time to celebrate music, as the concert band uses its music to share a message of patriotism with the community.
“There is no better way to celebrate any big occasion than with music. You know, music has bound us together from the beginning of time – and particularly the beginning of our country, and there are countless patriotic concerts throughout the United States this weekend. So it is just a great way to celebrate America’s 246th birthday.”
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band will be continuing their concert series on Sunday, July 17th, with a Broadway-themed performance at Zane’s Landing.
