Zanesville Police Catch Suspect in Armed Robbery

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Thursday at approximately 8:32 p.m. Zanesville Police were called to the MotoMart on 2341 Maple Avenue for an armed robbery and it didn’t take authorities long to apprehend the suspect.
Authorities say 24-year-old Derrick W. Davis of Lancaster, Ohio was found only minutes after the police received the call. Chief of Police Kenneth Miller described the situation after ZPD answered the call.
“Description was given out of a dark blue or purple minivan. Black male driver, six foot, and heavy build,” said Chief Miller. “A couple of minutes latter an officer observed a van that matched the description on West Main Avenue. They followed it and did initiate a traffic stop on Pine Street.”
Miller said Davis was also found with a weapon that he was not licensed to carry and an undisclosed amount of money taken from the MotoMart. Chief Miller said it wasn’t long after the call that police found their suspect.
“It was within five minutes or so of the robbery, so it was pretty quick. He’s got two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of possession of criminal tools,” said Chief Miller.
Davis is currently being held in Zanesville City Jail on a $150,000 cash bond.
