ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Police and Fire Departments are standing in solidarity with law enforcement across the country after multiple law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Two officers in Westerville, a suburb north of Columbus, were shot and killed Saturday while responding to a call. Our local law enforcement agencies wanted to show support for their lost brothers in blue.

“The Police Chief and myself were having a conversation and we wanted to do something about that. We wanted to show that, you know, hey here in Zanesville we care. The public here in Zanesville we care. We’re thinking about you. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the families,” said Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson.

Hobson said they contacted Lowes who graciously supplied blue lights to the departments. The front half of the building has red, white, and blue lights for the flag while the police entrance of the building has blue lights in support of the lives lost.

“We know we signed up for this job. The police officers signed up for this job, but the end of the day, you know like the firemen, we have a motto that everyone goes home. You know, those guys had families our officers have families, firefighters have families and at the end of the day we’re on the same team. It’s a brotherhood.”

Hobson said the courthouse will also be lit with blue lights starting tonight through Saturday night. He also said the departments will be attending funeral services for the Westerville officers tomorrow.
