MEDINA, Ohio – Chase Wilson graduated from Zanesville High School in 2009 and on Wednesday won the 97th Davey Tree Ohio Open Championship.

Over the three round tournament at the Weymouth Country Club Wilson shot 65-72-65. His opening round score included a hole-in-one on the par three 13th hole.

“I really wanted to win this event. Jack Nicklaus won the Ohio Open before (in 1956). To have my name on the same trophy as someone like that is very special to me. It’s an honor,” said Wilson.

Wilson’s 65 score on Wednesday didn’t start off ideally. He started the round trailing by three strokes and bogeyed his first hole. But then rebounded with six birdies and an eagle. He finished 14 under par, which was two strokes better than the runner-up.

This was the former Blue Devils ninth time playing in the Ohio Open. He twice participated while at Zanesville High School. His previous best finish in the 97-year-old tournament was third.
