ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Members of the Zanesville Fire Department will be out on the streets this weekend for their yearly ‘Fill the Boot’ fundraiser.

Firefighters will be on the roadways collecting donations from drivers to help fight muscular dystrophy. Firefighter Chad Brock said it is something they do every year to help raise money to fight the disease.

“The majority of the money goes towards research as well as to support the family with needs and provide kids with the opportunity to go to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) camp,” said Brock.

In past years the firefighters have been on Maple Avenue and Underwood. However, because of safety concerns they have moved to side streets. Brock said they still hope to hit a goal of around $5,000.

“In years past when we were on Maple and Underwood we had made substaintial amount of money. Since we’ve moved to the side streets it’s sort of dwindled down a little bit. We hope to hit $4,000 or $5,000,” aid Brock

The firefighters will be on Bell Street this Friday from 10 a.m. till 2p.m. and on Zane Street on Saturday during the same time.
