The Ohio Department of Transportation today released preliminary results from a safety study about Maple Avenue in Zanesville.

O-DOT says the three year study shows that the concrete medians installed in 2009 between Military Road and Country Club Drive have lead to a 47% decrease in crashes.

A pro-life group held a rally in Zanesville to raise awareness about abortion.

The Muskingum Valley Right to Life organization sponsored a prayer circle and demonstration along Maple Avenue.

Those in attendance at the annual event stood on the sidewalk and waved signs as people drove by.

"We believe that every life is important born and unborn and we're just praying that someday it will be ended," said Helen Fedorke.

City of Zanesville Water crews will spend most of their Labor day working to repair a water main break on a busy roadway.

Crews have shut down both southbound lanes of Maple Avenue from Bell to Princeton. An 8 inch water main broke around the McDonald's/Harding Road area early Monday morning.

Officials said that northbound traffic is running smooth. They also said it is possible that they may move a lane of southbound traffic into one of the northbound lanes.

A fire broke out Monday evening at the Wal-Mart on Maple Avenue in Zanesville.

Wal-Mart Spokeswoman Dianna Gee said the fire was the result of a teenage prank.

According to Gee, a quick responding customer saw the fire and immediately put it out using a fire extinguisher.

Gee said the fire posed no threat to Wal-Mart customers and there was no need to evacuate the store.

The Zanesville Fire Department responded to the call just before 8 p.m. Monday.

The slow economy isn't keeping businesses from setting up shop in the "Y-Bridge" city.

Construction projects on Maple Avenue are keeping crews busy this summer.

Zanesville City Zoning Administrator Pat Denbow said he's noticed a big increase in zoning applications over the last year.

Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton tells WHIZ News that traffic is reduced to one lane north and southbound on Maple Avenue after a serious water main break.

The break occurred in front of Burger King on Maple Avenue Sunday morning.

Crews are on the scene working on the broken line.

No word of any boil advisories that have been issued as a result.

A four car accident caused some traffic back-ups Tuesday on Maple Avenue.

Police responded to the scene in front of the Colony Square Mall just after 4 p.m.

Sergeant Jon McCoy of the Zanesville Police Department said the driver of a dodge caravan heading northbound failed to see traffic stopped in front of him and started a chain reaction crash, resulting in a four car pile-up.

According to McCoy, the driver that caused the crash was treated at the scene for injuries...

It's becoming a familiar headline in Zanesville.  For the third time in less than three weeks, authorities are investigating a shooting.

According to the Zanesville Police Department, it happened around 2:30 this morning at 1025 Maple Avenue.  One person was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with unknown injuries.

It's not clear whether or not it was a drive-by shooting.  No names are being released at this time.

Traffic came to a halt after a head-on collision sent two people to the hospital early Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called out to Maple Avenue just after 1 o'clock.

Z.P.D. Patrol Sergeant Andy Armstrong said the driver of a white Chrysler Concorde was trying to make a left turn when it collided head-on with a black Ford Fusion.

Armstrong reported that both drivers were up and talking with officers after the crash, but were transported to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital...

A new restaurant could be on its way to the Y-City.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Pat Denbow told WHIZ that LongHorn Steakhouse has applied for signage on Maple Avenue.

The signage was filed for the site of the former Goody's department store in front of the Colony Square Mall.
