2014 Muskingum County Crime Statistics
2014 is coming to a close and the New Year is just two days away. With that in mind, the Muskingum County Sheriffs office is taking a look back at last year.
We got to sit down with Sheriff Matt Lutz Tuesday who gave us a run down of the crimes that were dealt with over the previous year.
"For us it was actually almost a mirror to 2013. Some of our stats are quarterly, so we don’t have all those stats compiled yet. We’re still waiting on the last few months of the year to finish up. But for the most part, as I’m looking over stats here, we had about 1400 offenses last year, and this year, we’re at about 1305."
Lutz says there were 30 less burglaries. 12 robberies. 184 assaults and the number of forceable rapes remained the same as 2013. Overall stats say the numbers fell a bit. Drugs were the number one priority being focused on for the year, but Lutz says keeping the community safe is always a must.
"The overall general focus of our office is to try and make our community safe. You know we work with a traffic safety grant to get more presence out on the streets to slow people down and try to avoid fatal accidents or bad accidents so everything we can do in general just to make our community a safer place."
New Years Eve, our conversation with Sheriff Lutz continues when he talks in depth about the war on drugs.
