Flooding closes roads in Crooksville

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio – Yesterday’s storms poured inches of rain over Southeastern, Ohio, causing road closures in some communities.

In Crooksville flooding was reported at an apartment complex. And residents who live on Mill Street in the Perry County village awoke to seven inches on rain flooding out the dead-end road, trapping some vehicles in driveways.

The Crooksville fire department informed us that some in Perry County lost power briefly and that two families were evacuated by the Red Cross from their homes because of flooding.

Jasmine White works as an EMT for the Crooksville Fire Station and said firefighters worked throughout the night placing sandbags around town to prevent further flooding. White also gave some advice for drivers who encounter high water on roadways.

“Completely avoid it,” said White. “Turn around. You have no idea what’s going on underneath that water. It could wash you away. You don’t know how deep or how powerful it is.”

Similar flooding and road closures were seen in East Fultonham, Roseville, and Newton Township.
