Fred F. and Herman M. Dreier Scholarship Fund Awards $40,000 Scholarship

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – One area student is receiving a $40,000 scholarship for their academic excellence and passion to impact their local community.
The Fred F. and Herman M. Dreier Scholarship fund was created by Fred Dreier before his passing in memory of his brother Herman with funds from both of their estates. The scholarship looks for students who display academic potential, high moral character and financial need.
"This scholarship has been going on since 2005. Each year we just pick one recipient, in the past it was a little bit of a lesser amount but, now it’s $10,000 a year. We have scholars from all different walks of life now being very successful," said Kurt Dreier, Scholarship Family Representative.
This year’s scholarship is for a total of $40,000 divided into $10,000 per school year. Accepting the award today is John Glenn High School graduate, Alexis Baker.
"Receiving this scholarship means a lot to my family and myself because, you don’t have to worry as much about the loans and bills that we have to pay and it’ll help later in life when I go to medical school because, it cost a lot," said Alexis Baker, Award Winner, Fred F. and Herman M. Dreier Scholarship Fund.
Alexis will attend Black Hill State University in the fall as a Pre-Medicine major. Later in life she plans to become a Pediatric Surgeon.
