Power restored to customers on south end of Zanesville

Columbia Gas

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, Columbia Gas announced that AEP has completed restoration of electric service to all those affected by the natural gas outage on the south side of Zanesville.

If you are still experiencing issues with your electric service, please contact AEP.

Now that electric service is restored, Columbia Gas said its efforts will focus on restoring natural gas service which involves the following steps:

· Shutting off gas service to all affected homes. This work is currently ongoing.
· Removing air from the system and reintroduce natural gas.
· Performing an additional safety check on the gas appliances at each house.
· Relighting gas appliances.

Approximately 100 crews are in the area and will continue to work around the clock and throughout the weekend to restore gas service. Columbia Gas can only restore service if crews are able to enter the customer’s home to perform a safety inspection of your gas lines and appliances.

During the inspection, Columbia Gas will assess the state of your equipment. If damaged, simple repairs will be made the same day. If repairs are more extensive, they will notify customers and be back as soon as possible to replace the appliance. Once all safety checks are complete, they will relight appliances.

If you are planning to leave your home, please leave contact information with a neighbor or on your door. Leave your porch light on so Columbia Gas knows your service is off. An adult (18 or over) must be present.

Shower facilities are available for use at the Muskingum Recreation Center for affected residents Friday until 9:00 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Identification is required to enter the building. The Center is located at 1425 Newark Road Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.

If customers have any questions regarding goods or services impacted by the outage, you can contact Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077.
