ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With temperatures expected to rise up into the upper 90’s heading into the weekend, the United Way is asking people to stay cool.

Local United Way Executive Director, Meg Deedrick said the temperatures coming are no joke, and you need to be prepared. Deedrick suggests, if you do not have fans, as well as air conditioners, to go to public places such as the mall or the movie theater.

Also, in cases of extreme heat, our partners the Red Cross and Emergency Management Assistance often open cooling shelters and if that happens, folks can know of that resource by calling 2-1-1,” Deedrick said.

Deedrick said they are also accepting donations of fans as well as air conditioning mobile units. Deedrick said 2-1-1 is an information resource for members in the community that can be a big help.

Deedrick added “2-1-1 is our 24/7 information and referral service, so you can call anytime day or night. You are going to get a live person. You can also text 2-1-1. You don’t just have to talk on the phone, but if you need that specific contact and if you’re looking for a variety of resources, we really recommend you call 2-1-1 and they will connect you with the resources that are available.”

Deedrick said 2-1-1 is available anytime throughout the year, and she said remember to stay cool this weekend.
