Mason to Become Next Mayor of Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Election results are in and the city of
Zanesville will have a new mayor as the new year rolls around. Voters
chose Republican Don Mason over Incumbent Mayor Jeff Tilton; 2,439
votes to 1,295.
Mason says that he
plans to bring issues that are important to citizens to the
forefront; such as construction on Linden Avenue, Muskingum Avenue,
and Wayne Avenue as well as the clean-up of areas on Linden Avenue
and the abandoned Mosaic Property.
“I was very
pleased our messages—in terms of what we want to do—resonated.
And, the reason our message resonated was because as I started
knocking on doors and meeting with little coffee klatches, and
meeting with people and listening to what they’re saying; the key
points of our campaign were the key points of what people were
saying. It sounds crazy, but I think government ought to work on
those things that the people want government to work on. So, rather
than being ‘top down’, where government just says ‘this is
what’s important to you’; it’s got to be ‘bottom up’, where
government listens to people saying ‘this is what’s important to
us’.”
During his first
months in office, Mason plans to focus on infrastructure,
homelessness, and recreational opportunities; while remaining
available to the public.
“I take their
trust seriously and I’ll do my very best to fulfill it. And for
those who did not vote for me—whether they didn’t vote at all or
voted for my opponent—I want them to know I’m going to try earn
their respect, earn their trust by doing those things I’m committed
to doing. My door is open to any of the constituents; whether they
voted for me or not.”
Mason will
officially take office on January 1, 2020.
