Tornado siren tests to resume

Jeff Jadwin

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- Muskingum county’s tornado sirens will begin testing this Wednesday.

The siren testings were delayed due to COVID-19 but the county can no longer risk not knowing if the sirens are working. EMA director Jeff Jadwin announced the tests this afternoon.

“We decided along with the state of Ohio with the pandemic, with the coronavirus, that it was best not to panic people by having the sirens going off every week. So, we’re far enough in now and it seemed to have leveled off so we decided to go ahead and start testing the sirens next Wednesday, April 29th at noon.”

Jadwin says that 47 of the county’s 48 sirens are functional and the final siren is close to being repaired. Jadwin also stated the importance of the tests.

“We can’t express enough that this is an outdoor warning siren. It is not designed to be heard inside your house. So see if you can hear it in your house that’s great if you can. If not, you can sign up for our emergency alert system. You can do that by going on the internet and locating citizen’s alert 60.org or you can call the office here and we can put in the information for you.”
