Ohio State Highway Patrol Has Successful Week Enforcing Distracted Driving

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-Last week the Ohio State Highway Patrol made a marked effort to enforce distracted driving laws across the state.
The effort was a part of a multi-state coalition including Michigan and Pennsylvania. At the end of the week the patrol is reporting they are pleased with the initiative.
“So the state patrol, with the six state trooper project, had a great week of distracted driving enforcement with a total of 491 enforcements related to distracted driving… Because those are provisional numbers, we can’t really say accurately whether they’re up or down from last year, but what’s important is that we went out, we made a difference, we got those distracted drivers, we educated them, and then we got them on their way safely.”, highway trooper Brice Nihiser told reporters.
Distracted driving includes texting while driving, having a phone conversation while driving and eating while driving. Enforcement of these violations could save lives.
“It’s important for us to enforce those distracted driving laws because it does keep Ohioans safe. We want to make sure that everyone has a safe roadway to drive on, and make sure they aren’t being negatively impacted by those not being responsible behind the wheel.”, Nihiser continued.
The highway patrol wants to remind all motorists to not drive distracted or impaired and to always wear their seatbelt.
