Sheriff Makes Statement On Snow Levels

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The first projected snowfall is imminent here in southeast Ohio.
Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz took time this morning to explain snow levels. Snow levels are decided upon by the sheriff’s office of each county.
“Level one is the least severe. It’s what we use the most, here in Muskingum County. Anytime that the roads are covered or start to get covered we usually put that level out pretty quickly… We jump up to a level two when the weather outside gets really bad.”, sheriff Matt Lutz said.
Level 3 snow emergencies are a very rare occurrence. Issuances on snow levels are meant to make it easier for emergency services to operate.
“For us, as emergency first responders, the least amount of accidents that we have going on, the least amount of vehicles that we have stuck on the road, or stuck in ditches, makes it easier for us to get to the actual emergency calls or the calls for our citizens easier or quicker. So we put the level two out when conditions get really bad.”
Snow level designations are decided with assistance from the city police department and ODOT.
