Remembering Bob Stephenson

Stephenson (1)

A local community leader has passed away after a battle with
a short illness.

Former Muskingum County Sheriff Bob Stephenson passed away this
weekend at the age of 73.

Stephenson spent more than 30 years in law enforcement,
including twelve years as Sheriff.

“The thing that when I think about him is just the public
service part of it, because he was always involved in a lot of things and even
when he stopped running as Sheriff he was serving as township trustee for
Newton Township, so he was always still serving his community. Just a great guy
and did phenomenal stuff here at the office and he’s going to be really missed,”
said Sheriff Matt Lutz

Lutz worked with Stephenson for more than a decade and says Stephenson
taught him many things over the years, including the importance of the Buckeye
State Sheriff’s Association.

“He actually served as a president for BSSA, as well, and so he kind of left that legacy for me to be involved in BSSA. It’s a tremendous organization that represents all 88 sheriffs and I was able to kind of follow in his footsteps and serve as president of BSSA in ’19,” said Sheriff Lutz.

No services for Stephenson will be held at this time.
