Land Bank Continues Partnership With Habitat for Humanity

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The Muskingum County Land Bank is continuing its fruitful partnership with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter.

The Habitat stopped by the monthly Land Bank meeting to discuss their Mead Street housing project. They are looking for the Land Bank’s help to add more houses.

“The County Land Bank has been giving them lots so they can basically take those donations and leverage them to get even more funding. They’re looking to build their fifth house of seven on Mead and we had discussions with them about other areas in town they’ve been looking to do. Usually they look to build one house on that target area and then one house, kind of a community build, every one or two years.”, Land Bank director Andrew Roberts said about the relationship.

The Land Bank helps by finding and acquiring lots for the Habitat. Most of the lots acquired are either vacant, too small to build upon, or were foreclosed by the county.

“Habitat fills a gap in housing that is very unique. They take, usually, blighted areas lots, do in-fill housing in those, then find people who are wanting to own a home but are on that edge of financial ability through a conventional loan or anything like that.”, Roberts continued.

The Land Bank is proud of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
