ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Ohio State Highway Patrol concludes its six-state distracted driving enforcement project.

With April being National Distracted Driving Awareness month, The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined forces with five other states to focus on distracted driving. The project started April 5th, and ends tonight at midnight.

“So far in Southeastern Ohio, we’ve issued 35 distracted driving citations in the last week as part of the six-state trooper project. Statewide, thus far we’re looking at about 490 citations that have been issued,” said OSHP Sergeant Nathan Dennis.

Compared to the previous trooper projects done on distracted driving, 490 state wide citations appears to be a decrease.

“Unfortunately, still everyday we have distracted driving crashes occurring across Ohio, so the biggest thing we can do is stress the importance of ensuring that we’re paying attention, staying focused on the road, and not driving distracted,” said Dennis.

Sergeant Dennis reminds the community that distracted driving doesn’t only apply to cell phones. Anything that takes your mind or focus off the roadway is a distraction.
