City looks to add more Speed Humps

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- There are about 50 locations in Zanesville that have speed humps and the city is looking to add more as they see an increase in speed hump requests from citizens.
The primary areas that have speed humps are residential and school properties with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Zanesville Mayor Don Mason said speed humps will do no damage to your car if you drive over them at 25 m.p.h.
“As much as people hate driving over them, the bottom line is the public continues to call in every week for more humps. It’s about childhood safety and slowing people down to 25 in a 25 mph zone,” Mayor Mason said.
Residents can call and request speed humps in particular locations. If the location meets the criteria and the city agrees on it, speed humps will be placed. Mason said the city is looking to add more based on the citizen requests.
“My biggest concern right now is Maple Avenue. That is where we average over one accident a day and those accidents are often personal injuries. Sometimes they’re t bones, sometimes they basically happen when people are impatient drivers running into others,” Mayor Mason said.
Mayor Mason met this evening with city council to discuss new designations for speed humps in the city.
