Muskingum Co. Offices Relocating

Some of the buildings that belong to Muskingum County are being affected by the lack of power and natural gas, which were shut down when the Masonic Temple caught fire.
Those include the prosecutor’s office, Muskingum County Courthouse and the county jail. Saturday, an emergency meeting took place to make a plan to move county offices away from the courthouse and find them places to work.
“It’s one of those things you never think about having to do, but I think it sends a huge message of how much this county’s elected officials work together and partnership,” said Muskingum County Commissioner Mollie Crooks.
Most county offices like the Commissioners, Auditor and Treasurer will make the move to the Muskingum County Emergency Management Office on Adamsville Road. Others may possibly move to the Board of Elections or the former Help me Grow building at 333 Putnam Avenue. The plan is ever changing and evolving and requires patience from elected officials and the public.
“Two days ago we were told we might have electricity back on Tuesday that the building might start coming down in a matter of hours those conversations, but we have to realize that there are just a lot of moving parts and things change and we just have to be flexible. We have to be cognoscente of our service to our community and also keeping everyone safe that means our employees, our buildings and other public that might be coming in,” said Crooks.
Crooks said they’ll inform the public of location changes by posting it to their Facebook pages, county website and individual offices websites. You can contact the offices relocating to the EMA through the EMA’s phone number.
