Lowest Temperature Recorded Zanesville Airport Since 2015

(WHIZ-TV) – A large area of high pressure passed over our region late Wednesday Afternoon and continued to be present in our region throughout much of the overnight hours. This area of high pressure brought clear skies into our region by Wednesday Afternoon. The incoming heat was reflected back into the air by the several inches of snow that is still present across our region on the ground. The presence of the high pressure also resulted in calm winds across the region, which prevented the temperatures near the ground from mixing with the warmer air temperatures not too far above the ground.
This allowed for temperatures to drop very quickly during the evening and overnight hours, reaching down to -11° at around 8:15 AM EST Thursday Morning at the Zanesville Airport.
The double digit below 0° temperature reading at the Zanesville Municipal Airport (KZZV) was the first time since 20 February 2015 that the temperature reached at least -11°. The temperature on that day had actually reached -16°. (On a side note, 20 February 2015 saw significantly low temperatures across much of Ohio).
The Cambridge Airport likely had the coldest temperature in the state of Ohio on Thursday Morning. The temperature at Cambridge: -16°. For Cambridge, this was the lowest temperature since January 2014, when the temperature reached -19°.
Other places in our region saw below 0° temperatures. New Philadelphia reached down to -11°; Newark dropped down to -9°; Lancaster saw a low of -6°, and Athens came in at -3°.
That’s your weather!
