Riley is Looking for a Walking Companion

While it may not be the best of weather days, Tuesday is National Walking the Dog Day.

One dog expert said that taking dogs for walks helps keep them calm, helps them feel less confined and helps both you and your pet get exercise.

“The more you take them in and out they get on a routine. A lot of time people will take their dogs out every so often. Every so many hours. That’s the way we’ve always done it ourselves and our family. You can take a dog with no house training and it’s very simple to do, once they know you’re routine, it works out very well,” said Muskingum County K9 and Adoption Center Volunteer Doug McQuaid.

If you are in need of a walking companion, Riley would love to spend time with you. He’s around 2-3 years old and came to the Muskingum County K9 and Adoption Center at the end of December.

“With him being that age he still has a little bit of energy to him. When you first take him out of the house he’s going to be a little bit rambunctious, but after you get him going you seems to walk fine, he’s easy to walk. He’d be a great dog walker to be honest with you,” said McQuaid.

If you’re interested in meeting Riley you can reach out to the adoption center. They also have plenty of dog food and straw if people in the community are in need. The adoption center could also use donations of Kongs to keep the dogs active when they’re in their kennels.
