Body of Ohio Marine Gunnery Sergeant James Speedy Returns Home

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The body of Gunnery Sergeant James Speedy was brought back to his hometown of Cambridge, Ohio earlier today.

He was flown into the Zanesville Municipal Airport where people from the community lined up in support.

The procession headed to the Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with help from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Cambridge Police Department, The State Highway Patrol and Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Speedy was among four marines who were killed in Norway during a training exercise when their V-22B Osprey crashed. 

He joined the Marine Corps in 2009 receiving numerous decorations for his service including the Navy and Marine Achievement Medal with two gold stars and much more.

In addition to his honor, Governor Mike DeWine ordered that flags of the United States and the State of Ohio be flown at half-staff throughout Guernsey County as well as the Ohio Statehouse until the day of Sergeant Speedy’s funeral, Saturday, April 9th.
