The age limit to become a Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper has increased.

The maximum age to become a trooper has raised from 35 to the age of 40. The Highway Patrol said they did this to get a broader range of applicants.

“We’re looking at retired military people that retired at age 38 from the military, or people that have decided to change jobs or had their industry move out of Ohio. Now, they have an option of joining the OSP.” Lieutenant Russell Pasqualetti said.

The Highway Patrol is looking for applicants dedicated to public service and that want to help people. If you’re interested in becoming a trooper, visit the Ohio State Highway Patrol website or contact your local post to talk to a recruiter.

“We’re always looking for people to join. Right now, we’re having a big push for local recruiting. Now, we’re guaranteeing our recruits that they can be within 50 air miles of where they want to join. It used to be if somebody from Zanesville joined the State Highway Patrol, they could end up in Toledo or, say Dayton depending on how they finished in the academy. Now, we’re guaranteeing that they can be within 50 air miles.” Lieutenant Pasqualetti stated.
