Good Sam’s Footbridge Comes Down

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Piece by piece Good Samaritan Hospital is coming down and Thursday another iconic part of the building was removed.
This morning and afternoon workers removed the 100-foot bridge that crossed Forest Avenue. The bridge connected the original hospital to Genesis Radiation Oncology building.
Troy Jones of Zemba Bros. said that everything went as planed.
“The first step is the safety of the public. We closed down the road. We went in and talked to the [employees in the Radiation Oncology building] and we made a clearing on the south side so we could take the bridge that way to get it away from the building we are trying to save,†said Jones.
Construction workers began the process of removing the bridge at 10 a.m. and were completed in less than four hours. While Good Sam will be coming down, the building on the other side of the bridge, Genesis Radiation Oncology building, will remain and is still in use.
Jones told us that the former bridge will be put to good use.
“The old bridge it has a special use. One of the Zemba boys is going to use it across his pond. So that will be interesting,†said Jones.
Jones said they hope to have the entire hospital torn down by the end of the year.
