State Officials Look Back on 2023 Achievements

ZANESVILLE, OH – With less than a week until the New Year, state officials are taking a look back at some of this year’s achievements.
Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted spoke about some of the great strides the State has made this year. Husted said 2023 was a busy year for Ohio.
“We set a couple of positive records,” Husted said. “We have the most jobs in Ohio history and the lowest unemployment in Ohio history. This is great because it means we are making things in America again and we are making them in Ohio.”
He said there are currently more jobs than there are people in Ohio. Husted said the next step is to help people out with job training or education so they can take advantage of these opportunities.
“It will be great because our children and grandchildren won’t have to leave Ohio to find great job opportunities,” Husted said. “They’ll be right here in the Heartland and we want to keep it that way.”
Husted also reported that the clean up from the fiery train derailment in East Palestine almost a year ago is about to wrap up.
“We faced a tough start to the year,” Husted said. “The East Palestine train incident caused a lot of challenges in that community. We fought back and held Norfolk Southern accountable and that clean up is nearly complete. That was a tough start to the year but we bounced back.”
Husted said the goal for 2024 is to continue to create more opportunities for those entering the workforce.
