House Fire Injures Three
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A mobile home on Shiplett Road caught fire early Monday morning prompting neighbors to rush in and rescue three occupants.
South Zanesville Fire Department Assistant Chief Landon Duhamel said the structure was fully involved when they arrived and the residents were outside in the cold in need of medical treatment.
“Ourselves along with the National Trail Fire Department were to a dispatch a confirmed, fully involved structure fire on Shiplett Road,” Duhamel said. “They were already advising that they had pulled a victim out of the structure. Additional manpower was requested and for tankers from Washington Township, Newton Township, Perry Township, also had an agent from Falls Township and a medic from the City of Zanesville and two ambulances from Community Ambulance.”
All three victims were transported and South Zanesville Fire Chief Russell Taylor reported their condition.
“According to the hospital, I called the emergency room to check the status,” Taylor said. “They advised that the first female, the younger female was intubated and being emergency transported to OSU. And the elderly female female took a turn for the worst. She had to be upgraded to a level one trauma and she was also being emergency transported to OSU.”
According to Duhamel, one of the victims thought a heating lamp for chickens inside the house was a possible explanation for the fire that rendered the structure a total loss, however the official cause remains under investigation.
