Unearthing an Adventure

DUNCAN FALLS, Ohio – As the Muskingum County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge enters into its final weeks, they will be holding an event which combines archaeology with curiosity to unearth a fun adventure. 

MCLS Teen Assistant Librarian Alyssa Fisher announced an Egyptian-themed event that explores the ancient culture discovered by modern archaeologists who had to conquer mysterious mazes and tricky traps.

“We have an escape room challenge. It’s called Lost Mummy Escape Quest. And it’s geared for teens, ages 11 through 18 and it’s this coming Thursday. I believe it starts at 11 a.m. all the way through to 7 p.m. so you can register, come, bring your groups of 2 to 4 people. And while one group is going through, the other group can wait in the library as it gets reset,” Fisher said.

Registration for The Lost Mummy Escape Quest is required and will take place at the Duncan Falls branch this Thursday. The event aims to spark the imagination of today’s youth through the stories of lost civilizations that can be rediscovered in the pages of a book.

“Attendees can expect to learn about ancient Egyptian civilizations. That’s one of our Unearth A Story, following the theme of summer reading. So it’ll be a lot of fun. There will be like STEAM challenges, where they have to figure out clues in order to unlock and escape the room,” Fisher said.

MCLS is nearing its goal of 2.5 million minutes read during this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which ends on July 31st. Currently, Muskingum County Readers have logged more than 2.3 million minutes into the Beanstack app.
