BBB Warns of Scams Ahead of Upcoming Eclipse

ZANESVILLE, OH – The upcoming eclipse is generating quite the buzz across Ohio but the Better Business Bureau is urging consumers to use caution while preparing for this rare celestial event.

Lee Anne Laniguan, the Director of Investigations at the BBB of Central Ohio, said if you are planning to travel, make sure to use legitimate websites when booking hotels or car rentals.

She also said to double check the venue you’re going to ahead of time

“Check the venues for any special instruction, any admission fees, and any parking options that they may have to take advantage of,” Lanigan said. “We don’t want anyone’s car towed while they’re watching the eclipse. If you’re concerned about an event or venue, you can reach out to BBB for more information.”

Lanigan said she also recommends double checking that you packed your eclipse glasses. She said the BBB is expecting to see some eclipse glasses go for extravagant prices.

“If you are out money, we want you to contact your payment processor and file a dispute with them immediately,” Lanigan said. “Contact your bank, contact your credit card, and if you are shopping, please pay with a credit card. Credit cards offer special protections to consumers that other forms of payment do not.”

If you see a scam, you can report it by heading to bbb.org.
