Partnership Program Concludes at Muskingum Valley ESC

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center has successfully completed its Healthcare Partnership program in collaboration with Genesis Healthcare System and Zane State College.

The program engaged 46 high school students from four different area schools, providing them with valuable healthcare education and experience. Participants completed a medical terminology course from Zane State College and gained hands-on experience through a 40-hour internship with Genesis Healthcare.

“Unlike other types of industries, a lot of the equipment and the opportunities like emergency services, those things are not portable. We can’t take them to the students in the schools for them to experience. So, being able to bring them on sight and have them actually be able to experience those areas and those types of careers in real time, in and around the people and professionals who do that work, along seeing the equipment, just affords them a different insight into what the career might require of them if that’s their chosen field,” Genesis Healthcare Chief Administrative Officer Diana LeVeck said.

Each student also received over $500 through the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education. This program helped prepare students for potential careers in healthcare and contributed to the development of the next generation of medical professionals.

“I think this opportunity was great because it was people coming together. It was schools working with businesses like Genesis Healthcare and higher education like Zane State College. We can be the facilitator here at the MVESC and allow students to get the exposure that they need and let them know that there are things right here in our community that they can do when they get out of high school and that they are high paying jobs and are valuable,” MVESC Director of Workforce Development Eastin Lewellen said.

The four schools that participated were Maysville, Caldwell, New Lexington, and Newcomerstown. MVESC and Genesis are hoping to continue the program again next year to support aspiring healthcare professionals in their educational journey.
