Third Annual Zane’s Trace Commemoration Kicks Off Weekend of Festivities

ZANESVILLE, OH – The wait is finally over, the Third Annual Zane’s Trace Commemoration kicked off the 3 Day long celebration today at Putnam Landing Park.
Festivities started at 12:30 this afternoon with the Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony on the main stage.
Rick Buck, the President of the Zane’s Trace Commemoration, says there is something for everyone at the Commemoration.
“We’re going to have live bands all weekend on the main stage, we’re going to have on the other end by Restoration Park we’ll have several different kinds of contests.” Buck said. “We’re having a watermelon eating contest this evening, we’ll have a karaoke contest over there, over the weekend. Well there’s several different contests they’re going to have over there, beard and mustache contest.”
Buck said on top of the contests there will also be over 100 vendors and a chance to learn about some local history.
Gary Allen, the History Coordinator, says their main goal is to be able tell future generations of how Zanesville got its start.
“The main objective of what we’re trying to do for the Zane’s Trace Commemoration is tell the historical story of the development of Zanesville, Ohio.” Allen said. “We started 2 years ago, we started with the founding of Zanesville. This year we’re up to the area of transportation, the Ohio-Erie canal is one of our topics, the Muskingum River improvements where we talk about the dams and locks. They’re interlocked with the Ohio canal system, which was very profitable for the City of Zanesville back in the day.”
