NFHS Announces High School Baseball Rule Changes
ZANESVILLE, OH
The high school baseball season has come to a close, and the NFHS has a couple of rule changes to report, set to be in place for the 2025 season going forward.
First, the high school athletes governing body says that hitters using non-wooden bats will have more flexibility using substances to enhance their grip on the bat, brining a little more consistency to the already established rule. Players may now apply resin, pine tar, or any other drying agent to the bat, so long as it does not exceed 18 inches beyond the knob of the bat.
Other rule additions say that the failure of removal of an already ejected coach or other personnel member will give an umpire the right to announce a forfeit on that given team’s behalf. According to NFHS Director of Sports and liaison to the Baseball Rules Committee, Elliott Hopkins, “the rule is more about coaches maintaining proper decorum for their players and fellow coaching staff.
