High Flu Activity Throughout Ohio

The Ohio Department of Health says the flu and influenza-like-illnesses are currently above baseline averages for the entire state.

Flu season can begin as early as October and can go as late as May, with flu activity usually peaking in January and February. It’s still early in the season, and so far, there have been two deaths reported in the state of Ohio. The Director of Emergency and Trauma Services at Good Samaritan Hosptial, David Davis, says there are two first care units in Zanesville where people can go if they are feeling ill.

"One on maple avenue at the health plex across from Bethesda, another one in South Zanesville and Maysville adjacent to Northside pharmacy. They’re open from 10 A.M until 9 P.M."
Davis says they are seeing about 20-30 cases come through the hospital each day and reminds people who are feeling ill to seek medical help immediately.

"If they’re short of breath, if they’re having a high temperature, certainly a temperature above 102-103 that’s a very serious thing. We’re here to see you, we’re here happy to see you if you have flu symptoms. Call you doctor, go to the first care or come on in if you need us."

Davis would like to remind people to frequently wash their hands, avoid people with the flu, and, if you are feeling ill, be sure to stay at home.
