The Crooksville-Roseville Pottery Festival is Keeping History Alive

ROSEVILLE, OH- The 59th Annual Crooksville-Roseville Pottery Festival kicked off Thursday afternoon with their ceremonial plate breaking and auction held by the Clay Center of Ohio.

Roseville and Crooksville both have a deep history that is rooted in pottery. At one point Crooksville was known as Clay City and Roseville was known as Pottery Land. There was a time when Crooksville and Roseville had seven pottery factories between them. Now only Burley Pottery remains.

“You know without history, you’re nothing and Crooksville and Roseville both were built on pottery, the pottery industry, the clay, the clay that came out of the hills, which my father you know brought clay from the hills to potters, so that’s my connection to the pottery, my father, and again he worked at McCoy’s,” said Lori Hammer, the Pottery Festival President.

The festival will continue on into Friday and Saturday. There are many different events offered throughout the weekend such as live musical guests, a pie eating contest, pottery pitch, rides, a 5k and more. They also have a wide range of arts and crafts vendors as well as food trucks. The festival will conclude Saturday night at 10 with a firework show.

“It’s for the community, you know, it’s for both towns to come together and realize what their heritage was and their history, we’re just so happy that everybody comes and supports us,” said Hammer.
