AAA Releases Survey Findings About Driving While Impaired
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety released its survey findings about driving while impaired.
The survey showed that people have a "do as I say and not as I do" mentality about alcohol. 91% of Americans feel it is not OK to drink and drive, and 92% believe driving and driving poses a threat to their safety. A large 12% believe that they have drank and drive in the past year. We spoke to Kimberly Schwind, Spokesperson for AAA who told us a little bit more about driving under another kid of impairment.
"It’s really not just alcohol that we’re worried about. People seem a lot less concerned with drug impaired driving. Only 56% of people said that people driving after they’ve had illegal drugs are a threat to their personal safety. Only 28% of people said that those driving after they take prescription drugs were a serious threat. So you know what that tells us is that we really do need to educate people on the dangers of drug impaired driving."
Schwind told us its incredibly important to keep these things in mind year round. She also shared some tips with us on how to have a safe new years celebration.
"First of all, don’t drink and drive. Don’t get in the car with somebody who’s been drinking and driving. If you see people that you think might might be impaired on the roadways, call 911and alert them and also, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and have your ride set ahead of time."
Schwind says if you are hosting a party, always make sure you have non-alcoholic beverages for your guests to drink.
