Take a Trip to the Civil War Era at the Prospect Place Estate

Civil War Living History

History comes alive this weekend in Trinway with the Civil War Living History Weekend.

The event started today and continues through tomorrow at Prospect Place Estate featuring reenactments of people who lived through those divided times like Abraham Lincoln, civilians at home, and in Paul Crow’s case, members of 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

“I am the chaplain and my role for the 41st Ohio would’ve been the spiritual welfare of the soldiers. In battle, mortality being so heavy on the minds, people that were not believers turned to faith quite quickly when faced with death on a daily basis and there were many revivals that went through union and confederate camps during the war,” Crow said.

Civilians Of The Civil War

While most of us think we know the era well enough, Crow hopes to dash certain misconceptions of the time.

“There are a lot of myths and misunderstandings. We represent the 41st Ohio but we also represent the 28th Alabama at certain events which was a confederate unit and being able to tell both sides of that story. They were all Americans. Northern and southern and it’s important that people know the truth and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Crow said.

The event picks back up again tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. and will feature a lecture by Civil War scholar, Mark Holbrook, from the Ohio Humanities Council at noon. Visit their website for more information.
