WHIZ Military Salute
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Many of the rights and privileges that we take for granted today have been gained and defended through the efforts of our veterans.
WHIZ took a moment today to recognize a veteran and thank him with an honorary flag from Annin Flagmakers. Retired Army Sergeant First Class William Sellers served 21 years in the army and has traveled the world.
“My dad is a retired veteran from the army. He served from 1984 to 2005. He was 412th Civil Affairs Unit in Whitehall, Ohio. And he was in Afghanistan in 2004. I was pretty young when he was in the military, so I don’t remember a lot of it but I do remember my mom telling me when he would call. But it got me a lot closer to my mom and my grandmas and my grandpa when he was overseas because they helped out a lot with my brother and I,” Sergeant Sellers Daughter Annie Sellers said.
Since his retirement, Sergeant Sellers remains active in the community and has taken an interest in boating and heavy equipment along the Muskingum River.
“So he, over the summer, was working on the Lorena as a Captain. He really loved that. My mom also worked on the boat with him, so it was nice that they could work together. She was their secretary. And then, he’s actually training to get his 100 Ton license because he’s working for Brannon Contracting on the really, really big tug boat that you might see on the Muskingum River and he’s loving that. So yeah, he likes to be on the water,” Sellers said.
The family is proud of Sergeant Sellers military career and believe all veterans should be recognized. But they are especially excited about the recognition of one of their own.
