Funding Boost for Perry County Courthouse Renovation
PERRY COUNTY, OH – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced more than $55 million in funding to clean up and revitalize properties, including a local courthouse.
The funding, awarded through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program and the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program, includes $180,000 for the Perry County Courthouse. The money will be used to remove existing windows with asbestos caulking and lead paint on the jambs.
“They should be taking windows out this week. It’s starting right away. They’ll take all the windows out and they’ll put in temporary plywood and temporary barriers to keep the weather out so they can work in a somewhat heated environment,” Perry County Commissioner Ben Carpenter said. “I don’t think it’ll take much more than a couple weeks to do, and they’ll have them all out and plywood will be in that space.”
Removing the windows will address environmental concerns and improve safety. This project is part of an ongoing renovation effort that has been underway since 2017.
“Anytime we can receive money to help on this courthouse project is important to us. We’re not borrowing any money for this project. We got all the money we need to complete this project, which has been through several years of cost savings and frugal spending on behalf of the county commissioners,” Carpenter said. “We’re really proud of the fact that we’ll complete this project without borrowing any money, won’t have to bond any money when we’re finished, we’ll be done with it, and it’ll be great.”
Community members are encouraged to drive by the courthouse to see the progress made so far.
