Prayer Breakfast Recognizes Exceptional Students

The Martin Luther King Junior Scholarship Fund helps minority high school students prepare for the financial needs that come with two and four year college experience.

And in January, you can attend the MLK Junior Scholarship Fund Prayer Breakfast to see Muskingum students be recognized. The Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities will also be recognized as the fund’s 2025 MLK Honoree.

“The breakfast will be on Martin Luther King Day and tickets are $15 a piece and can be purchased from the Welcome Center on 5th Street. The dinner, the breakfast itself is a buffet. It is wonderful, and it will be at North Terrace Church of Christ and we invite the whole community to come and not just attend the ceremony but to help encourage our students as they go onto college,” said Carlotta Workman, a member of the MLK Scholarship Fund Committee.

The money raised from the breakfast only partially funds the scholarship while the rest comes from community support and donations that this year, are helping 17 students.

“There are 17 recipients from the area high schools in here Muskingum county who will be recognized at the breakfast. As they are recognized, we will list their accomplishments and we will also further it with their bios. Let you know where they’re going to be attending, what they’re going to be majoring in, and then they will have a chance to give their opinions or voice what the scholarship means to them,” Workman said.

Tickets can be purchased at the Welcome Center in Zanesville and on their website where you can also learn more about the Martin Luther King Junior Scholarship fund.

The MLK Junior Scholarship fund is also organizing a month long food drive in January where you can drop off donations at Eastside Community Ministries and at Christ Table.
