Alzheimer’s Association Shares Warning Signs and Support
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Center for Seniors welcomed the Alzheimer’s Association today for a presentation on the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s.
The free event highlighted how Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect memory, thinking, and behavior. Attendees learned how to approach loved ones with memory concerns, the importance of early detection, and how to spot the signs of Alzheimer’s.
“Some of the signs of Alzheimer’s include memory loss that disrupts daily life, changes in planning or solving problems, difficulty completing familiar tasks, confusion with time or place, trouble understanding visual images which usually shows up when people have difficulty driving, new problems with words or speaking, we see that language is often affected when people are impacted by dementia, miss placing things, and losing the ability to retrace steps. A lot of people lose things but when it impacts their ability to carry out their daily tasks is when we want to pay attention to that,” Rene Redd the Alzheimer’s Association program manager said.
The presentation also covered diagnostic options and the resources available for families facing Alzheimer’s. It was an opportunity for the community to learn more about the disease and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.
“You’re not alone. That we are here to support you and that there is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom for people who are struggling with dementia either as themselves who have received a diagnosis or a loved one,” Redd said.
