Larry Peters

Larry A. Peters, 86, of Byesville, passed away Saturday (January 11, 2025) at his home.

He was born September 30, 1938 in Robins, son of the late James B. “Bunk” Peters and Ann Maria (Hassell) Peters.

A graduate of St. Benedict High School, Larry retired from Centria after thirty years as a crane operator.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church until its closure and then became a member of St. Benedict/Christ Our Light Parish. He firmly held fast to his Catholic faith and believed whole-heartedly that faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains. Larry put all his children through Catholic school, even though it was costly and there were times when he was out of work for some unfortunate reason – he believed God would provide.

Larry spent most of his mornings saying his rosary at the graveside of his wife, Carol. His evenings were spent watching the sunset from his front porch, where Carol said she would paint the water tower on the distant hillside. He also watched for Charity to go to work and come home.

He enjoyed gardening and believed that you should put it in the ground and leave the rest up to God. He enjoyed working puzzles, especially Sudoku. He enjoyed trips to town and going to Aldi’s and Wal-Mart. He also liked listening to sports on the radio. Displaying his quick wit, Larry always had a nickname for everyone he met.

Larry was a former firefighter with the Byesville Volunteer Fire Department.

Above all else, his family meant everything to him. He cherished every moment he spent with them, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann (Harbin) Peters, who passed away August 8, 2004. They were married May 5, 1962. Also deceased is a brother, Jim Peters; and a sister, Martelle Gadd.

Larry is survived by seven children: Lori (& Bill) DeGendt of Zanesville, Chris (& Lisa) Peters of Byesville, Lauren “Cookie” (& Jeff) Kuhar of Cambridge, Cindy Murdock of Cambridge, Jamie (& Dan) Larson of Cambridge, Jennie (& James) Chrisley of Byesville, and Charity (& Jason) Yerian of Byesville; a brother, Joseph (& Sandra) Peters of Centerville; a sister-in-law, Betty Peters of Byesville; his grandchildren: Will (& Lindsey) DeGendt, Whitney (& Eric) Fisher, Cameron (& Taylor Dilly) Peters, Shelby Peters, Keri Kuhar, Kyra Kuhar (& Travys), Kami Kuhar, Brett Murdock (& Taylor Ayers), Bryce Murdock, Bobby (& Lindsay) Fair, Jacob Fair, Jenae (& Jake) Powell, Chase Chrisley (& Brianna Hibbets), Lyndsey (& Steven) Andrzejczyk, Hunter Yerian (& Avery), Tanner Yerian (& Alexa), and Kallie Yerian; his great-grandchildren: Gideon, Genevieve, Jack, Julia, Lainey, Morgan, Garrett, Miles, Eden, Eris, and Sloane; and his step-grandchildren: Kacie, Zach, Kolton, and Kenzi; several nieces & nephews; and his special friends, the nuns at the church.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (January 15, 2025) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Benedict Catholic Church/Christ Out Light Parish, Cambridge, on Thursday (January 16, 2025) at 11 a.m. with Father Nicholas Ginnetti officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.
